As this project progressed we found that when we loosened the reins the children were more than capable to take over. They came up with many ideas that enhanced the projects and gave them a sense of ownership.
We wanted to give a flavour of some of the ‘sparks of creativity’ that the children came up with. As each child may have a different learning style from another it was important to remember that,
“Every student can learn, just not on the same day, or the same way.” - George Evans.
For some of the children their creativity sparked in different ways and at different times. Often we found that one child’s inspiring thought fuelled the imagination of others.
“Everyone and everything around you is your teacher.”
Ken Keyes, Jr.
Rather than highlighting any particular moment of creativity or any one child that impacted on the project we wanted the girls to express how their imagination moved the project in an exciting direction.
The ethos of the Creative Schools Project is that every child has a voice…and each voice is appreciated and valued equally.
Take a wander down the yellow brick road and through the imaginations of all our very creative girls!

I really enjoyed this years musical because we all got to throw in our own ideas. We definitely got more of a say than last year. The year before the teachers directed us more whereas this year we're giving our opinions which is helping to change the play for the better. We were also able to create our own costumes which I found great fun.

We put lots of effort into this musical by coming up with dances, costumes and even some dialouge.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite thing in this musical was making the hats because we were not told what to use, instead we used our own unique creativity.
I also enjoyed coming up with dance moves for the show because it was lots of fun.

I really thought this years musical was great fun, everyone got give their ideas and the teachers took on board our suggestions. I think its better than last years. My favourite part was picking out our own costumes because there was so many costumes to choose from. Everyone has great ideas!

The creative school's project means alot, not only to me but to the whole school.I have learned alot from doing animations,to taking part in a musical. All of us have worked very very hard to learn our lines, show facial expressions and also to learn how to move around the stage.I'm very happy that I joined the musical as I have enjoyed everything i have done with my friends.

I enjoyed making the hats to wear for the play.We got to pick all the things to make them with.I also enjoyed being in the trad group because I like playing the tin whistle. It was lots of fun being in the 2013 school play.

My favourite part of the Creative Schools' Project so far was the fact that I got to google images by myself of hat designs that I liked. I then chose the materials that I wanted and needed!
ReplyDeleteMy friend Nikki and I were part of the very first 'WizKidz' interview and we got to tell everbody about what we were doing in The Tradational Irish Music Group with regards to the the twister scene. The musical this year has given me lots of confidience, how to get into character, act and react.I think this musical is different (in a better way!!) from the previous musicals because this year the children have more of an input!!
Tara, Glinda!! :) xoxo
I have enjoyed being in the trad group and in the actual play. I helped my friend choose their instruments for the polka. We made a video and put it on the blog. This years play improved a lot from last years because we got to choose things not the teachers!! We got to plan and design hats and then we chose the best hats. I enjoyed this alot.

I have really enjoyed this years play. Not only is it great fun but us, the STUDENTS get to express our ideas, we even got to create/design our own hats and costumes.
ReplyDelete"Creativity is the key!" thats what I say! I'm also lucky enough to be part of the schools trad group. We're playing The Kerry Polka No.2 for the twister scene...I can't wait! I feel so lucky and appreciatative to be apart of such a fun and creative school!!!

During the musical I suggested that since the crows don't have hands they could flap their wings to Gangnam Style! The teacher thought this was great.
ReplyDeleteThis musical has given me confidence to act and sing.I love doing this play as I've met lovely people and also met people with the same interests as me.We the kids have been able to add more lines or actions to the play....this is so cool, I love it.My favourite part of the play is when the witch catches us in her castle!
Erin Mc
I enjoyed this years play because we could include stuff to make the play better and make it more interesting. We got to make our own costumes and Ms Carroll helped me make a hat. I enjoyed it because i could do what i wanted and offered suggestions on how to improve the design of the hat.It wasn't the teachers telling us what to do.

The creative schools project was a very enjoy-able time for everyone and I'm sad it's ending. My part in the creative schools project was when my class were making anamations. The kids not the teachers got to pick out the scenes from the movie and make the characters and scenes ourselves. Oh, and one last thing the musical has really changed me,for the better.

During the creative school's project Tara and I were interviewed about how the traditional group would play a piece of music for the musical "The Wizard Of Oz" during the twister scene. We decided what type of instruments we would play. When we were practising for the musical we made up our own actions and we got to choose what costumes we would wear and even design hats for the Ozians.I am enjoying the creative schools project because everyone gets a chance to be creative.

I enjoyed being part of the musical. It was fun making the hats because we chose the materials ourselves. Being in the creative schools has changed me a lot. I know how to use facial expressions and to project my voice.

I really enjoy coming in every day and learning new things. I loved designing the hats and picking out the outfits for my Munchkin and Ozian scene. I really love the bright, neon colours. I love being silly instead of strict like last year's play in the covent for Sistar Act.I enjoy learning how to expres my line and make the most of it.When we look to the audience we sound louder which has a great impact to the audince because they can hear us instead of mummering. We get to have a say when we think something can be changed and we discuss it if it's a good idea instead of just the teachers deciding nearly everthing!! I enjoy the Wiz kids and this blog. I enjoy singing the songs and dancing which thia play gives

I've liked this years musical because we were allowed to pick our own costumes and we got to make hats. We had to think of things ourselves like adding an extra line if we thought it would work well. We also learned how to add expression and were told to face out to the audience.
ReplyDeleteWe've got to do cool dances and at the end we get to come out and sing the songs. This years musical is different from last years musical because last years play was kind of serious but this year one is fun and you can act silly in it.

I've enjoyed everything. This year we were able to be more creative in the musical. I'm a munchkin and we got to choose our own costumes which was great. The colours we're wearing are neon and they really stand out.
ReplyDeleteI was shown how to project my voice and also shown how to face the audience.
Erin B. :P
I've enjoyed the musical this year because it's given me a lot of self confidence. Last year the teachers gave us our costumes but this year we asked to make our own costumes, which they agreed to do. On one of the first days we got all the stuff from the drama press and put it out over the hall. We were allowed to pick bits of things that we thought might work for our costumes. This was just the start!
ReplyDeleteWe also made hats this year. The teachers didn't tell us how to make them or what they were meant to look like....I really enjoyed being creative.
I'm enjoying the musical this year so much that I can't wait for the show :). I wonder what people will say about our show this year?! :D.

I enjoyed making the hats for the Wizard of Oz play. I liked the way we were able to pick different materials to make the hats.
ReplyDeleteI also enjoyed making up the dances with the other dancers because it was intresting and lots of fun.I enjoyed taking part in play because we were able to say what we wanted and act in our own way.
Shannon L.
I have enjoyed being in the play this year because I learned to project my voice and have confidence in myself. We made up dances for different scenes this year and the teachers didnt really help us choose our costumes.
ReplyDeleteEveryone has a great sense of humour especially the scarecrow ,he is the funniest.I've also enjoyed shopping for my outfit with my mam.The musical has really improved my confidence because at the start of the musical when we had to audition I didnt feel comfortable going up on the stage and singing in front of the 5th and 6th classes. The teachers encouraged me a lot. I've had a lot of fun.
P.S Watch out for the new vidoes!!
Lovisa
This years musical is fun because we get to pick our own costumes and we get to add some actions to it instead of the teachers telling us what to do. Basically we get to give some of our own ideas instead of the teachers doing all the work!
ReplyDeleteI also enjoyed the creative schools activities because we got to make hats and other stuff.I love art so thats why I enjoyed making the hats so much.I also loved when someone came up with the Gangnam style idea for the crows, it was really good and clever.
Another thing I really enjoyed was when we had a busy day picking our own bits for our costumes. My mum thinks it's a great idea that everyone is going to look different because during last years musical she couldn't recognise anyone and didn't find it interesting.
Lordina
We had a fantastic time doing the creative schools project as we came up with some of our own ideas.I enjoyed it as we organised what we were going to do and we choose what we were going to wear in the play.
ReplyDeleteOur previous play "Sister act" was very good but it is very different to The Wizard of Oz.One of the main differences is that we've had to come up with all the ideas ourselves. We've come up with the dances and the music such as the song "One way or another" from One Direction when the bad witch "Razan" wants to catch Dorothy. We also added Gangnam style by PSY when the crows are annoying the scarecrow.
I've also enjoyed being in the trad group especially when we were practising the polka for the twister scene. We added percussion instruments to the polka to make it more scary!
We also did some interviews for the play to tell people what we were going to do and they are on the blog...so check them out.I've really enjoyed the creative schools project as I have more confidence and its like we're running the play!!!!!!!!!.
We wouldnt have done this creative schools project without our teachers. The teachers are Ms Burns,Ms Carroll and Mr McGuiness.
Thanks teachers.
Aisling
I'm really enjoying this year's musical. It's different to last years musical. Ms Brady's class are doing an animation for the creative school's project. I think that idea was amazing. Move over Toy story there's a new animation in town! The trad group are doing a tune for the twister scen in the Wizard of Oz. It's going to start really slow and quiet and eventually build up and get louder. The trad group are also adding percussion instruments to it. I think my favourite thing about the musical is WizKids TV. I'm the presenter and I have interviewed a lot of people. The musical and WizKids TV helped me build up my confidence. At the start I was very shy but I'm not anymore. At home I don't say my lines I act them. This helps my character be more interesting. Over all I am really enjoying the musical and I hope next years musical will be just as good.
